Hello everyone,
If you’re on this page then you must be coming up to the Year 1 class next year. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all and I hope you’re looking forward to seeing me, Mrs Kent and Mrs Szynska.
Hello everyone,
If you’re on this page then you must be coming up to the Year 1 class next year. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all and I hope you’re looking forward to seeing me, Mrs Kent and Mrs Szynska.
Normally you would have the chance to have a look around your new classroom and to meet me so we can tell each other a bit about ourselves. I’m sorry we haven’t been able to do this this week.
To help you feel happy about coming into Year 1 next year I’ve made a very short video to tell you just a little bit about myself.
This is the door that we go into our classroom in the morning and at the end of the day you’ll be collected from here too.
We hang our coats and our PE bags in the cloakroom which is inside the classroom. You will find your name next to one of the hooks. (Mums and Dads – As you can see the hooks are very close together so hopefully you will send your child with a drawstring PE bag not a sports bag.)
Just like your last classroom, we are lucky to have the toilet and washbasins in the classroom so you don’t have to go far when you need to go!
This is what you’ll see when you’re sitting at a table. We have a whiteboard just like the one you had in your old classroom. On the walls there lots of things that can help you.
These are some of the sounds that you will learn to read while you are in Year 1. These will help you read lots of different words.
There are lots of words that you will need to use in Year 1 and lots of them are on the wall so that you can see them.
This is the maths wall. When we are learning about something in maths, I put it on this wall so that you can keep reminding yourself what you have learned.
On your first day in Year 1, we will try and make a special display like this. It’s a reminder that we all need to do our best.
Finally, the Year 1 class are called The Leopards so you will see lots of Leopard pictures around the classroom and we say Leopards Love To Learn!
In the video I said that I like reading stories so I thought I would include one here for you to listen to. I hope you enjoy it and I really hope you are looking forward to Year 1.
Normally you would have received an invitation to a meeting at school where we could talk about the transition between EYFS and Year 1 so you would have a better idea of what to expect for your child.
So you don’t miss out I’ve attached the PowerPoint that I would have used. To view the PowerPoint just click here.
I’ve put down some of the activities we’d have done if we had all been at school together.
Work your way down the page and you’ll find everything you need.
Don’t forget to write a list of all the things that you would put in a box to tell me about you! If you want to take a photo you can send it to
Thank you to Eoin for sending some of his work in.
Now I’d like you to look at these two PowerPoint presentations.
The first PowerPoint is counting objects. See if you can count all the objects and then see if you were right.
The second PowerPoint is a rocket countdown from 10. Join in if you can.
