“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” – Maya Angelou
Art at St John Fisher
At St John Fisher, our vision for Art is to inspire every child to explore, create, and express themselves through a rich and progressive journey of artistic discovery. We believe that every child is a unique artist, capable of seeing the world in their own imaginative way.
From the earliest stages in EYFS, pupils develop essential foundational skills through playful mark-making, exploring textures, and refining pencil grip and control. As they progress through the school, children build upon these early experiences—learning how to blend colours and tones, develop observational drawing, experiment with portraiture and sculpture, and express themselves through abstract and contemporary styles.
Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures clear progression of learning, where each stage nurtures confidence, curiosity, and creativity. Children are introduced to a diverse range of artists, cultures, and styles, encouraging them to appreciate art in all its forms and recognise its power to communicate ideas and emotions.
Through inspired, hands-on experiences, we aim to foster independent thinking and personal expression, ensuring that every child develops not only artistic skill but also pride, perseverance, and a lifelong love for creativity.
