New to Year 6 Transition Page

Hello Year 5 and welcome to your new Year 6 Transition page! This is quite odd isn't it? This page will contain some useful information about Year 6 so that you have a bit of a head start before the new year begins in August. Hopefully this will answer any questions that you may have. I'm looking forward to going back to school in the Autumn term and welcoming you into Year 6!

Miss Baraclough :)

A standard week in Year 6

We have a lot to cover in Year 6 and a lot to fit in one week so below is an example timetable of what next year could look like. This is the one from this current year so PE days and computing days may change but the general coverage will be the same!

Reading in Year 6

Reading is always important but particularly in Year 6 because this is a subject that you will be tested on. Therefore, it is important that you are reading a variety of books so that you get used to their structure and learn new vocabulary. You will then be able to use this vocabulary in your writing, too!

Below is a list of recommended books to read by the end of Year 6. Why not try reading some of them over the summer holidays?

I am also going to include some guidance and prompts for you to think about when your are reading to become great at comprehension! See the document below!

Summer Reading Challenge 2020!

I forgot to mention that we need a super class name! Get thinking and if you have any ideas, drop me a message on the guestbook or email me and then we can have a vote! Thanks!

All about Year 6

The current Year 6 class have created some information leaflets about life in Year 6. Have a read below to find out a little bit more about Year 6 from the children's perspective!

Below, I have included a document with all of the grammar terms that you should know and be able to use by the time you are in Year 6. It is broken down into the year group that you learn those particular terms in but you need to know as many of them on the complete document as you can!

It would be a good idea to practise and learn as many of these spellings over the summer holidays as you can. You should recognise these as I know that you have been using them in your writing in Year 5. I will also upload the Year 3/4 spellings as well as you need to be able to spell these words too.

Top tip: Try writing the spellings in a sentence so that you understand the words in context.

All about SATs

I'm sure that you have heard the word SATs being used before. These are tests that you will sit in May next year. They are nothing to worry about but they are something that we work hard for all year in order to achieve the best that you can!

You will sit 6 tests in total: Grammar, Spelling, Reading and 3 Maths tests.

Click here to watch a video that explains a little bit more about the tests.

Below you will also find the information PowerPoint that I gave in the Year 6 SATs meeting this year.
